Sporobolus heterolepis ‘Tara’ has attractive, airy foliage that grows in a clumping fountain. Also called Prairie Dropseed, this ornamental grass can bring texture and depth to sun gardens. It has fragrant, tan panicle flowers in late summer, and its foliage turns a spectacular shade of rustic red in the fall.
Sporobolus heterolepis ‘Tara’ Prairie Dropseed is slightly more compact and upright than the straight species. It generally does not self-sow, so it would make an excellent groundcover without taking over. It is drought-tolerant once established.
Whether it’s used in large plantings or as a specimen in the border, Sporobolus heterolepis ‘Tara’ Prairie Dropseed is sure to please.
