Sanguisorba Officinalis Burnet

The wine-red, bottlebrush flowers of Sanguisorba officinalis weave around other perennials and sway in the breeze on long, graceful stems. Also called “Burnet”, this wildflower can bring whimsy to wildlife gardens, cottage gardens, and even floral arrangements.

Sanguisorba officinalis is a clump-forming, rhizomatous perennial native to many countries, including the United States. It thrives in moist, well-draining soil. It appreciates afternoon shade in warmer climates.

Sanguisorba officinalis Burnet will naturally self-sow. Deadhead the spent blooms to prevent self-sowing, or leave the seed heads on the plant for finches to enjoy.
