Rudbeckia fulgida var. deamii ‘American Gold Rush’ produces loads of golden yellow daisy-like blooms with dark centers from mid-summer to early fall. More commonly called Black-Eyed Susan, ‘American Gold Rush’ is a compact cultivar that is highly disease-resistant. Although its blooms may be slightly smaller than perennial standby, Rudbeckia ‘Goldsturm’, its fuzzy green leaves do not get the black spots that often afflict the latter. A new favorite for us!
Rudbeckia f. deamii is a localized variety of our southeastern perennial native, Rudbeckia fulgida. This variety is naturally found in the wild in the central United States of Illinois, Indiana and Ohio.
Rudbeckia fulgida ‘American Gold Rush’ prefers full sun and average to moist, well-drained soil. It is very tolerant of heat and humidity.
