Hepatica acutiloba, also known as “Sharp-Lobed Hepatica” or “Sharp-Lobed Liverleaf”, is an early spring bloomer with dainty flowers in shades of white to lavender to blue. The 0.5″ -1″ blooms have 5-12 petals backed by 3 large bracts on hairy leafless stalks.
Despite being called an ephemeral, Hepatica’s foliage usually persists into the winter. Its new leaves open after the flowers emerge in early spring.Â
Hepatica acutiloba Liverleaf is native to the eastern half of North America, where it is typically found in deciduous wooded areas. It is an important food source for early pollinators.
