Equisetum Hyemale Horsetail Rush

Equisetum hyemale, also known as Horsetail Rush, is an upright, rhizomatous, flowerless plant with jointed, finely ribbed, green stems with black fringes of scale-like leaves at each joint. This ancient species is native to Eurasia and North America. The tall, finely ribbed, pencil straight stems of Equisetum hyemale are fantastic in containers

Equisetum hyemale prefers full sun to part shade and damp to wet soils, or even shallow water. It will also grow in heavy shade. Horsetail Rush is very invasive, so grow it only in containers to prevent rampant spread. This is a great architectural plant if well controlled.
