Allium senescens is an ornamental onion that forms tufts of flat, grassy-looking green leaves and produces taller stems of mauve to lilac blue flowers in summer. Allium senescens is attractive to a variety of pollinators, but butterflies in particular appreciate the large landing surface the spherical blooms provide.
Also commonly referred to as Mountain Garlic, Allium senescens is a bulbous perennial that is well-adapted to sandy soils and prefers full sun to light shade.
